New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani on Tuesday said the UPA government had scored only a numerical victory and not a moral victory.
“There is something like numerical legitimacy and moral legitimacy. The government scored the numerical victory but lost on moral grounds,” he told reporters after the government won the trust vote. The victory only validated the theory that money power was used to secure votes. “Earlier there were only suspicions but today’s [Tuesday] episode has validated the fact that money was used.”
BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said, “The UPA might have won the trust vote but the victory is corrupt and manipulated. The UPA manufactured the numbers.”
The Samajwadi Party, whose crucial support helped the government win the trust vote, said the politics of the Left parties and the BJP had been “exposed.”
Railway Minister Lalu Prasad expressed happiness that the UPA won. He blamed the BJP for organising a “bribery drama” which seriously damaged the image of Parliament. — PTI
