Designs of buildings are ready and work to start soon: Collector
PERAMBALUR: The process of establishing a government medical college in Perambalur was set in motion with the Special Officer-cum-Dean of the college N. Balasubramanian taking charge here on Friday.
Dr.Balasubramanian is a professor of dermatology and Medical Superintendent of the K.A.P.Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruchi.
The college and the hospital would come up at Odhiyam village where a 26-acre site has been identified off the Perambalur-Ariyalur Road. The land, donated by a private trust, would be handed over to the government within the next few days. The government had planned to start the college from the next academic year with 100 M.B.B.S. seats.
Collector Anil Meshram told The Hindu that construction of the buildings for the college and its hospital would begin soon and a provision of Rs.10 crore had been made.
The designs for the blocks such as faculty, hostel and departments were ready.
The layout of the complex would be readied soon. Construction would begin after obtaining administrative sanction from the government.
Officials said that the college and hospital buildings would conform to the norms of the Medical Council of India.
