JAIPUR: A solution to the 26-day-old violent agitation by Gujjars, to press for Scheduled Tribe status, appeared to have been found late on Tuesday.
Leaders negotiating on behalf of the community and the Rajasthan government told the media that they had found a “solution” but desisted from making the contents of the agreement public. They promised that it would be made known on Wednesday.
“I am happy to announce that the talks have been successful,” said BJP national treasurer Ramdas Agarwal, who led the government side at the weeklong talks, said.
“The talks have achieved historic success,” said Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla.
