Bangalore: Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Friday said the people “must have faith” in the United Progressive Alliance government’s ability to control prices.

Speaking to the media, after addressing members of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry, he said official agencies had procured 154 lakh tonnes of wheat so far in the current procurement season, compared to 111 lakh tonnes last year.

The agencies had also procured 230 lakh tonnes of rice so far this year.

The higher procurement by the official agencies would help in keeping the prices of food grains in check, he said.
