KOCHI: No secular front will be complete without the Nationalist Congress Party, party president and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Friday.
Speaking at a party meeting here, Mr. Pawar said that the party entered into alliance with the Congress at the national level for keeping communal forces at bay. The party also contested the Gujarat election by allying with the Congress to fight the BJP and won three seats, he said.
While Mr. Pawar defended the decision of party State president K. Muraleedharan to stay with the NCP, he did not make any comments on K. Karunakaran’s decision to go back to the Congress.
The Central support for Idukki and Alappuzha districts under the agriculture package would be released next month. Schemes for the welfare of fishermen would also be announced, he said.
