Imphal: Apunba Lup, a major body ofsocial organisations, on Tuesday condemned the killing of youths by State and Central forces in ‘fake’ encounters. If the forces did not kill anybody, they thought they were not maintaining law and order in trouble-torn Manipur, it said in a statement. It said 32 people, including civilians, were killed in the past 16 days and, it meant that on an average, two persons were killed every day.
It would not be possible to bring peace by shouting for solving insurgency problem in the State at every public function while forces were killing people almost every day. The frequent use of the word ‘suspected militant’ for every person killed indicated that the authorities were not sure whether the victim was a militant or not. — PTI
