Unique Identification Authority of India chairman Nandan Nilekani defended Aadhaar and said it “dramatically improves convenience”and makes life “simpler.”
“People often think that why do they need the Aadhaar number. Fundamentally, our view is that the possession of an Aadhaar number dramatically improves convenience in your life,” Nilekani said at the launch of an Aadhaar-linked banking facility here on Wednesday.
“You can use it for a variety of things, make your life simpler, get access to public services, transfer money,” he said.
His remarks come a day after the Supreme Court refused to make Aadhaar compulsory to avail welfare benefits. PTI
