At least six people were killed and 40 injured in a stampede near the Bhavnath Shiva temple on the foothills of the Girnar hills in Gujarat on Sunday.

The police said the stampede was caused by a traffic jam on the Panj Naka bridge, which leads to the temple, where a three-day fair is organised every year on Mahashivratri, which falls on Monday. A clash between them and the incoming crowd caused the stampede.
