Thirty-two persons, including 13 children and eight women, were killed and 14 injured when the two vehicles in which they were travelling were involved in a collision with a truck in Barpeta district of lower Assam on Thursday. At least 45 persons — brick kiln workers and their families — were travelling in the vehicles from Dhubri district to Kamrup district, Barpeta DSP G.V. Sivaprasad said. At 4.40 a.m., the truck, loaded with sodium carbonate and speeding on the wrong side, suddenly took a right turn and hit the first vehicle. Immediately, the second vehicle collided with the truck at Kismat Darika in Doholapara. Twenty-eight persons died on the spot. The truck driver was arrested. — Special Correspondent
