One person was killed and seven were injured when a bicycle-bomb went off outside a cinema hall in upper Assam’s Sivasagar town on Monday night.

Police suspect that the blast was the handiwork of the Paresh Barua faction of the ULFA.

Home Secretary G.D. Tripathi told The Hindu that one critically injured person was shifted to the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh, while the others were admitted to hospitals in Sivasagar town. “It is suspected that an improvised explosive device was used. Had the blast occurred in the evening when the place is crowded, there would have been many more casualties.”
