Remembering Ramanujan

In 1904, Ramanujan graduated from high school and entered Kumbakonam's Government College with a scholarship that was awarded on the strength of his high school work. But his interest in mathematics made him neglect other subject. As a result he lost his scholarship. He felt so miserable that in August 1905, when he was 17 years old, he ran away from home! During this period, early in 1906, he came to Madras, bound by Pachayyappa's College. Here again, he was awarded a partial scholarship by the principal who was impressed with his work in mathematics. In due course of time, however, he lost the scholarship due to a gross neglect of his other subjects.
