Giving life

Any adult between the ages of 17 and 55 can donate blood. The donor should be healthy and should weigh about 45 kgs. The donor should give a detailed account of any illness that he or she suffered in the past, particularly of Jaundice, Typhoid, Malaria, Syphilis. AIDS or other communicable disease.A complete physical examination should be done before accepting the blood. Blood pressure of the donor is taken and about 300cc of blood is collected from his arm vein in a specially prepared bottle which has a solution called ACD to prevent blood clotting. There should be a minimum a three-month interval between blood donations or he has to wait for one more year to donate blood.
