YEHI PYAR HAI
T-Series, Rs.45 (CD)
There are some albums which have the power to put you to sleep and there are some which can wreck your nerves. This one under review succeeds in doing both in equal measure. But in all fairness it also offers two nice songs – just two in a pack of nine. But seven versus two is a comprehensive defeat for the singing duo of Rakesh and Surender. The very first offering, the title song, ‘Ye Hi Pyar Hai…’ is quite jarring on the ear. It has an odd unappealing music – wonder how you can make it that way – has indecipherable lyrics and a tasteless tune. The second one, ‘Hum Chahein’ is pretty much the same stuff, dull and uninspiring. Sure cure for an insomniacs.
Just when you begin to doze off, in comes a good peppy number, ‘De De De Dil’ by singers Rakesh and Surender. The pick of the song in the album is undoubtedly ‘Vasundhara, Jab se Meine Tujhe Dekha’. It is sung on a fast tempo and with effortless ease by the singers. If only the other songs were even a tithe as good as this one the album would have made a name for itself. About the other songs, ‘Tum Hi They’, ‘Dekha Tabassum Saa’, ‘Deewana Hua Ye’ and ‘Mohabbat Ke Nagmein’ less said the better. They can play on your already frazzled nerves. The singers, from the Vayu band, are endowed with a voice quality that is just apt for bathroom singing and can rightly earn a ‘sabhash’ from the kids and family members around.
REMIX RELOADED (Vol .1)
Tumhi Ho Hamari Manzil
Venus, Rs.75 (2 CDs)
Perhaps Venus knew that a free CD with this pack is important to win a few listeners. Still, one needs a lot of luck to turn this two-CD pack into a success. The songs in the album include old numbers like “Bahot Pyar Karte Hain” (Saajan), “Mana Ho Tum” (Toote Khilone) and “My Heart is Beating” (Julie) and they at once make your heartbeat race. And very soon, your realise that heart loses poorly in this race of super fast music. All of a sudden if you stop playing the songs, you realise what heavenly peace have you missed out! One hardly gets to test the vocal chords of DJ Sheizwood, Vaishali Burman and yet anothersinger named Rohan in these club mixes simply because the dominating music doesn’t allow it. Good for them?
