Honour for Darshini

Queen of elephants Darshini

Darshini, the elephant at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, will be honoured with the title of ‘Gajarani’ by Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma, head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore. The function will be held on the temple premises at 6 p.m. on January 10.

Thirty-five artistes of Kshetrakala Kendram will stage a Pancharimelam on the occasion. A procession, accompanied by percussion artistes, will begin from the West Nada of the temple at 3.30 p.m. and return to the temple by 5 p.m. A ‘gajamela’ and ‘anayootu’ will have 15 elephants participating in the event.

The event is being organised by Swami Shri Vivekananda Cultural Association in connection with the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
