Asanas, pranayama and meditation, combined with a sattvic diet and mantra chanting help restore the body’s natural harmony

BALANCE OF BODY AND MIND It can be achieved through dedicated practice of yoga
Yogic healing is natural healing without any medication, using the body’s inherent power of healing. The ancient yogis used this method to treat not just the disease but the person as a whole. Since diseases are caused due to imbalance, yogic h
ealing, a scientific method works by correcting the imbalance in the mind and the body, and restoring the natural rhythm and harmony. The aim of yoga is to gradually transform the individual in every respect — physical, mental and emotional — and build a sound body and a sound mind.
A sound body is possible only when the mind is free from stress. Sage Patanjali, the father of yoga, has said that ‘Nothing can be achieved without the purity of mind.’ Yogic healing begins by understanding the individual and targeting the cause of the disease – the disease may be due to congenital defects present at birth, improper upbringing, self abuse and neglect, accident, or a combination of these factors.
Asanas, pranayama and meditation are the magic tools of healing. They are the doorways to self awareness that help integrate mind, body and breath and develop control over the inner environment. These powerful tools, remove the strain from every cell, repair the damage, heal the pain and relax the body and mind as in sleep. They calm the nerves, boost oxygenated blood to all organs, create perfect balance among all the systems, and cure and prevent diseases. One hour of dedicated practise of asanas, pranayama and meditation will relieve fatigue, boost inner energy, uplift the spirit, and make the practitioner happy and contented the rest of the day. It is essential that one learns these properly from an experienced teacher.
Yogic diet
Yogic diet or sattvic diet plays a huge role in healing. It is a vegetarian diet that fulfils the nutritional needs of body and mind. They are fresh foods free from toxins, ideal for seekers of wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita describes a sattvic diet as “promoting life, virtue, strength, health, happiness and satisfaction.”
Mantra chanting and Sat Sangh also help in healing. Mantra chanting liberates the mind from worries and negative thoughts. Regular chanting of the Gayatri and Maha Mrityunjaya Mantras not only protect, purify and heal, but also bestow wisdom. Sat Sangh (right associations) provides healthy interactions and positive vibrations that help restore and revitalise one’s health. With yogic healing there is lasting ‘Freedom from pain and disease’.
