Feast from the East

LOW CALORIE Dim sum from Kylin

Kylin means a mythical Chinese beast. It is one of the four animals considered good omens in Chinese tradition. So the name Kylin was consciously chosen for this Oriental food restaurant and lounge bar at the PVR Priya complex in Basant Lok market. Not only to bring good fortune to its owners but to spread luck among its diners too. The restaurant specialises in Japanese, Chinese and Thai food. Rajeev Lal, the restaurant manager says, "We serve a bit of everything from the Orient." With faint red furnishings, yellow drapes and dark wood the ambience of this 84-cover restaurant does not stand out as any different from the others. The newness here is its just-introduced low calorie menu. Though there is not a very wide variety available for the vegetarians in this new menu, one can still feast on the steamed Vietnamese rice roll, grilled dim sum and mushroom and leek on satay sticks. Grilled dim sums are stuffed with assorted vegetables and then pan grilled. The dish Corn on Fire is served on fire, something like a sizzler.

Mango sushi

The chief chef specialises in dim sums and sushi, so these dishes are definitely not to be missed. In the vegetarian section, the restaurant serves sushi with mango, avocado, cucumber and carrot fillings. Since Japanese food is not very spicy and is usually steamed, it might not appeal to those who love the typical Punjabi tadka and food with plenty of mirch-masala. For the main course, one can try teppan chicken and cashewnuts in sweet chilli sauce, Vietnamese caramel prawns, chicken fingers in hoisen sauce, and aayam phat phat yam. There are also other low calorie dishes like steamed sole lemon coriander, stuffed mushroom caps with chicken and prawn rice in Hong Kong sauce.

Those with a sweet tooth should not leave Kylin without savouring the desserts like banana fudge and custard bao.
