The sofas aren't just "leather, two-seater," they are "high-back... upholstered in top grain leather with high-resilient foam seat and soft polyfibre back — two-seater." The coffee tables don't merely have four legs; they have "slender, tapered solid birch legs with flared out edges and trim skirt."

"Lifestyle enhancement is our philosophy," said Kabir Lumba, executive director, Lifestyle International, at the opening of Home Centre, their exclusive showroom for home décor. Today, home décor is a Rs. 17,000-crore industry, and it is growing at 25 to 30 per cent annually, Lumba said. The new store is part of the group's three-year plan to establish a chain of 10 such stores across the country. The first store was opened in Gurgaon. The Chennai store is the second in the chain.

At the new store, one can pick up furniture, furnishing and home accessories. Besides, it showcases 41 concept rooms — bedroom, dining room, office and garden — complete with furniture. The children's bedroom sets are priced from Rs. 9,980 to Rs. 70,000, master bedrooms from Rs. 29,950 to Rs. 1,35,000, living rooms from Rs. 49,500 to Rs. 1,18,500, dining rooms from Rs. 13,950 to Rs. 75,000, home offices from Rs. 2,950 to Rs. 6,000 and balcony sets (two chairs and one table) Rs. 6,950 upwards.

The furniture is sourced from 40 countries including Malaysia, Turkey, China and Germany. The pieces are made of panel board (MDF and particle board), solid wood and rubber wood.

Also on display are home linen, floor rugs, soft toys and curios.

The store is at 81, TTK Road, Alwarpet, where the old Lifestyle was once located.
