On a tandoori trail



CHICKEN DELIGHT You can avail 21 per cent discount at Crowne Plaza's Seven restaurant

The recent bird flu might have coerced some restaurants to scrap chicken dishes from their menus, but now the bird is safely back on the table.

Even during the flu-fear days, many organisations set counters to feed tandoori chicken to people on the street for free, re-establishing the fact that the lure of the dish is any day a bigger pull.

Since every region has got its own version of preparing tandoori chicken, restaurants are constantly developing innovative ways of preparing it. Coming up with such an attempt with innovative tandoori preparations is Crowne Plaza's Indian restaurant, Seven this week.

Many varieties

Terming it Festival 21, it has on offer as many as 21 varieties of tandoori chicken for diners. These recipes are being served for 21 days at the ongoing festival. Ilalachi paan ka tandoori, lahsuni angara tandoori murg, nariyal ka tandoori, kachhe aam ka tandoori murgh and tandoori jafraqni murg are a few examples of the available dishes.

The hotel's Executive Chef, Rakesh Kumar says, "I started by short listing 30 recipes but found only 21 of them were feasible." Keeping vegetarian diners in mind, the chef says, "We also have a vegetarian tandoori platter on offer."

The guests can avail of a special discount of 21 per cent if they carry a cutting of the picture in this article.

Such a variety of choice can be confusing, but the chef asserts, "For us, customer preference is of prime importance."

To add a little history to the event, tandoori chicken dates back to the Moghul period. But the legacy is no more confined only to India, many restaurants in the U.S, Australia, U.K. and Singapore now serve tandoori chicken. After all this Crowne Plaza's 21-day festival leaves a delicious taste, keeping the palate happy, diners smiling.
