Creating an impression

`Impressions' has a vast range of outfits for women

`Impressive' would be an apt word to describe the collection of salwars at `Impressions,' a newly opened boutique at Kowdiar.

With prices ranging from Rs. 250 to Rs. 5,000, the shop has ensembles to suit every pocket and every occasion.

From cool casuals to ornate party wear, each piece is meant to satisfy the taste of the discerning buyer. Exclusive without being expensive seems to be the catchword of the boutique. This has been made possible as most of the pieces have been handpicked or sourced directly from manufacturers located in villages from all over the country.

Party wear

The accent is on unstitched salwar sets, though they do have a wide range of ready-mades, especially in party wear.

The silk collection, ideal for party or formal wear, includes embroidered crepe silk, pure silk sets with jari work dupattas and exquisite chiffons.

But what comes as a pleasant surprise in the party wear section are the richly worked cotton sets, which afford the comfort of cotton while maintaining the dressy look.

Eye-catching pieces

Eye-catching pieces in casual wear are the simple jute kameez accentuated by bright salwars and dupattas, handlooms, set off against Kalamkari prints and the sets of double kurtas with a common salwar and shawl, to name a few. The fastest moving item these days is the 40-inch kurta sets, opines the staff.

A good collection of dupattas and salwars are available separately, giving a free rein for the adventurous to create their own styles. Apart from salwars, the shop also stocks short kurtis, nightwear and costume jewellery.

Tucked away in a quiet corner off Golf Links Road, the shop is not difficult to find and is accessible. The decision to locate the shop away from the "madding crowd," so to say, was a conscious one, according to R. Murali, the proprietor.

"People have begun to catch on to the advantages of shopping in leisure, away from the hustle-bustle. " says Murali.
