Bigger, better

The opening of Big Bazaar in the city augurs well for shopaholics

HOLD ALL The one-stop shop offers everything from personal care products to vegetables

For the diehard shopper, a one-stop shop robs the fun of trawling for discounts and deals. If, however, a shopper is strapped for time, it is the answer to prayers. With the opening of a branch of Big Bazaar in the city, it looks like prayers have been answered big time.

Big Bazaar has opened its first outlet in Mangalore at Bejai. It offers over 1,60,000 products under one roof at unbelievable prices. The food bazaar at the basement offers a mind-boggling range of vegetables, fruits, grains, provisions, dairy products, frozen foods, fabric care products, drinks and beverages, confectionery, kitchen linen and kitchen products, personal care products, ready to cook and ready to eat products, spices, pickles and accessories at wholesale prices.

The Big Bazaar is on the ground floor. One can purchase almost all household items here. Apparel and accessories for women, men and children, dress materials, sports materials, shirt and trouser lengths, bed and bath linen, footwear, luggage, plastic, toys and gift items, utensils, home decor, jewellery, watches, sunglasses and many other items are available here.

The first floor houses Pantaloon, the furniture bazaar and the electronics bazaar. "When the bazaar opened on April 22, nearly 4,000 people visited," Venkateshwara Kumar M., Manager (South), said. "We source products directly from the manufacturers and avoid middlemen. Hence we are able to sell quality products at low rate. All products at the bazaar are available at prices lower than the maximum retail price."

This is the first outlet of the Big Bazaar outside of Bangalore in Karnataka and the sixth in South India. Of the total six outlets in South India three are in Bangalore, one each in Hyderabad and at Visakhapatnam.
