My Kind of Place -- SHEKAR SUMAN
HULL (Near London)
Quaint charm of countryside
If I was asked this question (Which is your kind of place?) a few years ago, I would have promptly replied London. But not anymore. It has become a major commercial hub, with too much happening for a tourist to sit back and relax. That's how I discovered the irresistible charm of the English countryside and zeroed in on Hull (officially Kingston-upon-Hull) as my favourite holiday destination. Thanks to my cousin who owns a house there.
Old and new
The fresh air and vast open spaces give you a sense of freedom, particularly for someone going from Mumbai. Hull is a place where the past beautifully blends with the now. If there are fascinating museums and heritage structures, there is also the glass-covered Princes Quay Shopping Centre that floats above the waters of a former dock. You can get a good view of the done-up docklands from here.
Not fussy about food
As far as food goes, I have flexible taste buds that easily take to the specialities of the places I visit. I don't mind even a fusion English breakfast, Indian lunch and Chinese dinner. With Indian flavours popular across the globe, you will feel at home wherever you are.
No shopping please
I can never mix stressful shopping with a relaxing holiday. Once in Hull, I prefer to forget about mails, mobile phone and all other material needs.
