The state-of-the-art Studio K is the latest destination for portfolios and portraits

SAY CHEESE Studio K at Nungambakkam PHOTO:R. RAGU

If you have wondered why that forehead shines so bright, why your eyes are invariably closed, and your undeniable charm does not shine through photographs, it is because not all of us are photogenic.

If being photographed is a near traumatic experience for you, but you secretly nurture billboard dreams, then head to Studio K. A neat little house ere being photographed is fun.

Dedicated to portrait photography, the studio is equipped with a Nikon D2X Digital SLR - 12.4 effective megapixels.

If that doesn't impress you: the camera body costs nearly Rs. 2.5 lakhs, with the lenses costing a few more lakhs. The heavy-duty camera is linked via wireless to two massive 55-inch plasma screens. So it's not just you who can see the results immediately, but your family and friends can also vote for the best shot sitting in the lounging area.

With a green room, make-up artistes, photographer Jana Menon behind the lens and hours on hand, it should be easy to find at least eight stunning shots of yourself from a hundred. And for an additional fee of Rs. 250 per image, you can buy off the rest too. The photos will be given to you in prints and on a CD.

Keeping with the times

"Studio K is the Rolls Royce of portrait photography," says J. P. Acharya of Nippon Enterprises South, the group that introduced Konika Color Labs to the city.

"In 1986, when we brought in the Konica processing machines, a revolutionary technique which didn't require washing, and images could be produced in your bedroom, everybody laughed and said the prints would fade," he says.

To prove them wrong the company, which was essentially a Konika distributor till then, set up a studio. Since then says Acharya, Konika Color Labs has always sought innovation and excellence, introducing air conditioned labs, dress codes for their staff, insisting on coats and gloves for lab assistants, and even running photography workshops for homemakers.

For businessmen

A professional portfolio for models shot over six hours and more costs Rs. 10,000. A business portrait, the kind that you might want to see published in Forbes, will cost you Rs. 2,500. There are also bridal, infant, child and family packages.

For more information, contact Studio K, 8, A Brahathambal Street, Nungambakkam, Ph:28233656, 28237669.
