WORLD CUISINE: Sushi on offer at Kylin
Fresh sushi from Japan, khimchee from Korea, nasi goreng from Indonesia, dimsum from China, Thai red and green curry, Vietnamese caramelised prawns.
Want all this at one place? Then Kylin is the venue. Located in a quite corner of Basant Lok Market, the oriental lounge and restaurant has got some authentic delicacies from South East Asia.
"We are trying to carve out a niche by moving away from the usual Mediterranean lounge and offering our customers oriental food in a serene ambience," says Saurabh Khanijo, director, Kylin.
The unique selling point of this 84-cover two-floor lounge is its terrace with alfresco seating where one can chill out after a hard day's work.
The floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to lavishly pour in during the day and asthe dusk falls there is an interesting play of light and shade.
The lounge seating in rich and black silks, a translucent glass gangway and latticed walls in wood adds to the relaxing atmosphere.
Big menu
An eight-page menu may confuse you. Chinese roast lamb salad is a good option for a starter.
Prepared in fine spices, dark soya sauce, honey and green chilly, this is one of the rarest lamb preparations, as they claim. As a starter, lettuce rolls are a "hot property" here. . Served vegetarian as well as with chicken and pork, these green leaves can be enjoyed with peanuts, lemon, honey chilli, ginger and garlic.
After these heavy but tasty offerings comes the main course (only in case you have skipped yakitori and dimsums).
Again a difficult choice from 18 dishes. Thai green curry in summers and steam pomfret with ginger soya in winters are a treat.
Made with lemongrass, onions, coconut milk and cream, the Thai delicacy is served with khimchee salad.
While the steam pomfret, a Chinese preparation in ginger, garlic and soya can be enjoyed with rice.
Next in the list are teppanyaki and oriental dishes including fried rice, hakka noodle and chilli garlic noodle.
For dessertsthe fried milk is not a bad choice . Made from condensed milk, this sweet dish is served hot with honey syrup.
The other sweet options like ice cream spring rolls and chocolate mahajong can make anyone develop a sweet tooth.
All in all, it's different.
