Good food and quick service is what you get at Red Chilly Hot Pepper
IF YOU are an ardent food lover, every food junction will capture your attention. Not for just the food it offers, but for the different cuisines they serve under one roof.
The lunchtime and dinner crowd at Red Chilli and Hot Pepper, the vegetarian and non-vegetarian restaurant on Sastri Road in Ramnagar (near Subasree Hotel) is proof enough that eating out is in.
The two-year-old restaurant offers Indian and Chinese food.
"We use Hyderabad red chillies and black pepper powder to add flavour to our dishes," says P. Rajesh, who runs the restaurant.
He says pricing is as important as the fare offered and its taste. "Most customers are from middle class families, and so, we have priced the delicacies keeping them in mind."
The restaurant offers Tandoori roti for Rs. 7 and butter naan for Rs.10. The gravies are also reasonably priced. In addition to the regular menu, the place also offers sumptuous combo meals including tandoori items, Chinese delicacies and North Indian dishes.
Those on a budget and in a hurry can order hot chicken biriyani that comes for Rs. 25. A roti-vegetable gravy combo costs Rs. 55 while fried rice with a dry or gravy dish costs Rs. 65.
The menu also features vegetarian items, soups, gravies and dry items. The special emphasis is on chicken, though. Rajesh says that Chicken Simran, pepper chicken and chicken lollypop are popular among non-veggies.
Multi-cuisine might be the mantra for city restaurants now, but most of the food is Indianised before being served. This is the case with Red Chilli too.
In the starters, paneer manchurian is a good bet. Sprinkle some additional salt and pepper and veggies can have a wonderful time tucking into it. Also try the spicy hot and sour chicken soup, vegetable clear soup and soup with baby corn.
The menu includes vegetable, baby corn, gobhi and mushroom manchurian and chilli mushroom.
In the main course, rumali roti goes well with mushroom masala. Schezwan fried rice, chicken fried rice, vegetable fried rice and a similar range in noodles make for a wide choice in the Chinese platter.
South Indian fare has its own special place here and includes everyone's favourite dosas.
