IT MIGHT not be the case in the serial Kuchh Love Kuchh Masti showing on Sahara One but Sonika Chopra (Vartika in this serial) leaves an indelible impression in the very first meeting. She scores all her points when it comes to exuberance, confidence combined with charming looks and a husky voice. "If you believe in love, you cannot go wrong" is what her character in the serial believes. And the institution of marriage for Vartika holds little meaning as "it unnecessarily binds two individuals of two different attitudes towards life who just pull the relationship rather than live it". So she, not surprisingly, falls in love with a married man who would not force her into marriage.
"Mine is true to life character. She is young, smart, confident and clear in her mind. She does not take marriage as an ultimate end of life. She does not look at others to form an opinion or approve of her character and such people do exist," says Sonika, who is in New Delhi for the promotion of her debut serial.
This Economics graduate from Delhi University, hailing from Himachal Pradesh but who "grew up in the South", reached for the audition test for this character `at the last minute'.
"I was in two minds whether to go for audition or not because I was already active in modelling and was earning quite decently. But at the last minute when I got to know that auditions were almost over, I thought of just giving it a try and to my surprise I made it," recalls Sonika who has modelled for Samsung, Airtel, Esteem, Ikon and is currently seen in an LG advertisement.
For this former copywriter with an advertising agency, the serial is one in which people from metropolitan city will relate to her character. "I have recently got to know that 35 per cent people in our country are young. And the same percentage of people is shifting to urban cities. So we are rather a young country and I will definitely find my audience among them. I must say hats off to Girish (director) who foresaw it and made a serial for metro audience. Moreover this serial does not have ditching, bitching or scheming as the core elements of the story. We will score some points here too," adds she. But, she hastens to add, "Look I have nothing against those saas-bahu serials. Their characters are also drawn from real lives!"
