IT DOES not take much effort to make out that Gracy Singh's screen image of a shy, introvert girl matches her personality. She does not lack in warmth but in words.
"I am trying hard to open up. On the sets of Wajahh, the producer was unhappy with me. He asked me, `What is this? You arrive on the sets and without greeting anybody, walk straight into the green room. At least say hello.' I realised my mistake. The next day, I made it a point to greet all 60 people present."
Reason to act
About Wajahh, Gracy says, "So far I haven't tried a thriller. The role is demanding. Is film main mujhe har koi marta hi rahta hai. Bahut pitai hui hai. The only relief was a romantic song".
She plays wife of a doctor (Arbaaz Khan) and is told by an astrologer that her husband will kill her one day. So she starts hallucinating and the story then takes fascinating turns. Interestingly, there were hardly any retakes during the shoot.
Looking for variety
For Gracy, filmdom hasn't been a bed of roses, despite her debut in Aamir Khan's Lagaan. "This film proved to be almost counter productive to my career. It gave me such a status that people stopped approaching me. And the reason for not being seen in many films is her "laid-back attitude, lack of variety" and her own reservations about accepting roles that require skin show. "I want variety," she declares.
And for variety would she take the Mallika Sherawat route? "I don't know why people ask me this question everywhere? It's a question of attitude. Mallika is doing it because she is comfortable with it. Why compare her with everyone?"
What next? Choodiyan, a family drama and Dhool by Guddu Dhanoa in which she plays "a bold village girl".
