Enjoying his work
Ashish Chowdhary... honing the experimental streak in him
ASHISH CHOWDHARY. Who? The boy who got lost in a crowd of men in Qayamat? The actor who was overshadowed by Sanjay Suri in a comedy Shaadi Ka Laddoo that box office refused to
taste. The solo hero, who failed to win the audience sympathy when two girls ignored him for each other in Girlfriend?
Yes, the boy may have little to show in return of his toil but he is still enjoying even when Bollywood is hit by a spate of new arrivals every Friday. And the most recent was Let's Enjoy where he was seen doing something he doesn't like too do much in real life: Partying.
Set in Delhi, the film is about a party in a farmhouse where four stories unfold simultaneously.
"I am a Mumbaiite so I don't get to party that often. Also, with so much work there is no time to jive in a bash. However, the character Armaan reminds me of my younger days."
Ashish denies he did the film because he is the sole known name in the film where most are debutantes including the lead actresses Arzoo Govitrikar and Roshni Chopra. "Fortunately flops or hits I have got roles which stand out. In Qayamat people appreciated my comedy, in Shaadi Ka Laddoo, if Sanjay's comic act was good I got the attention playing the confused boy next-door. I believe the most difficult part to play is where you are not asked to limit yourself to overt portrayal of one genre like comedy or action. This is true for Girlfriend too. The film is about to complete silver jubilee. And one can't do much if the theme becomes the hero of the film. I think this streak keeps me going."
"I signed Let's Enjoy because I wanted to experiment. I do not want to play younger brother to Ajay Devgan or Bobby. Everybody appreciates such Hinglish films but when it comes to signing they shun them as Rahul Bose or Rahul Khanna kind of cinema. These days script is the king. Stars are no guarantee to success whereas subjects like Hyderabad Blues work," he points out.
Continuing with his experimental streak, Ashish is doing an action film with Zayed Khan and Dino Morea called Fight Club and White Land with Gracy Singh where he is playing an impoverished man from Gujarat.
