A THALI is the perfect representation of India - colourful and varied. The thali is an answer to the prayers of the indecisive or the lazy. If you are one of those who is crippled with angst every time you have to make a decision, a pre-plated meal with a little of everything is just perfect. The same holds true for those too lazy to run through the many pages of the menu and come up with a decision.
All who swear by the thali could check out the North Indian thali festival at Green Park. Executive chef Pavan Kumar has outdone himself with the vegetarian and non-vegetarian thali. One is greeted with a choice of sweet lassi, jal jeera or Fruit punch and chaat to whet your appetite. After that one could indulge in stuff like Kadi pakoda, Rajma masala, Malai kofta, Paneer kaju curry and if one cannot bend the ball like Beckham, one could always eat aloo gobi.
Non-veggies can take delight in Chicken Awadhi, Mutton Saag Wala and Lasooni Fish among others. As far as breads go one can choose to go with puris or rotis. For the rice devotees there is steamed rice as well as flavoured versions. "The rice items are vegetarian to keep it neutral," Chef Pavan comments. There is a choice of three desserts - Fruit Salad, Matka Kulfi and a host of sweets like Kala jamun, Badusha or Jalebi. The menu is changed for every meal so no one can claim to suffer from thali fatigue!
The portions are unlimited and while the food festival is on at Once Upon a Time, you can also order it in the room (extra helpings would be brought in casseroles) or at the coffee shop. At Rs. 175 with taxes for the vegetarian thali and Rs. 225 for the non-veg one it is the perfect opportunity to pamper oneself with the robust cuisine of the North. The festival is on for lunch (12.30 to 3.30 pm) and dinner (7 pm to 11 pm) till October 3.
