A FEW things that make the USP of the place:
Diet pizzas-- whole-wheat base with sprout topping
Eggless desserts-- Chocolate brownie and fudge
Pizza sandwiches crisp crusts stuffed with salad vegetables.
ABOUT A decade ago, the Hyderabadi got his first taste of pizza hard crusted rather inedible base garnished with tomato and capsicum slices in copious cheese and tomato sauce. A few years later, international chains made their foray with quality pizzas softer thin-crusted base topped with olives, baby corns and sun dried tomatoes, and served with chilly flakes. Pizza had arrived. .
"There are a lot many pizza eaters in the twin cities now, especially the number has been growing since the past two years," explains Gaurav Sharma of Smokin Joe's, a Mumbai-based pizza chain that recently opened its first outlet at Somajiguda. "This is the 41st outlet in the country," he adds.
The place brings kitchen secrets as well as Smokin' Joe's Wild Wild West theme. Pictures of arid American countryside, stables, stallions et al set in log frames and a woodsy theme for furniture, make the place a cosy hub.
The offerings on the menu are quite a mouthful stuffed crust pizzas, pastas as well as garlic bread. Choose from the very Italian Pepperoni, Chinese Schezwan veg, tandoori Chicken tikka, a south Indian Chicken Chettinad (this one with spicy masala gravy and coriander) and thematic Woodcutters (spinach, mushrooms and basil topping), pizzas.
The pizzas come in options of regular, medium and large. Apart from choosing from an elaborate menu, you can also make your own pizza, selecting your choice of toppings and base, including one made with whole wheat. "We have a range of low calorie Weight Watchers pizzas made with whole wheat base, soya granules and sprouts for topping, and nil cheese," says Gaurav.
Yet another USP of the place is the range of pizza sandwiches crisp pizza crusts stuffed with cheese, mushrooms and salad vegetables in mayonnaise. Try the Honey pepper chicken roast chicken and salad vegetables in a honey pepper mayonnaise or the Vegetarian delight paneer, American corn, salad vegetables and green chillies in mayonnaise. For the fusilli buffs, the pasta section holds Primavera fusilli with capsicum, onion, baby corn and black olives in Arrabiata sauce, Carbonara with bacon and ham in Alfredo sauce, plus choice of toppings and sauces. The Conti desserts offered here include Chocolate mousse as well as egg less Chocolate brownie/fudge.
"We are shortly coming up with one more outlet, in Secunderabad," adds Gaurav. For the moment, as part of the inaugural offer, Smokin Joe's presents `Awesome foursome', four pizzas vegetarian, non vegetarian or both (2+2), priced at Rs. 190, Rs, 240 and Rs. 215 inclusive of taxes. "The delivery time is about 30 minutes since pizzas are freshly prepared, from the base, on the receipt of the order," explains Gaurav. Incidentally the pizzas are made in special tandoor ovens at this outlet for those perfectly baked pizzas.
You can reach Smokin' Joe's, Olbee Centre, Somajiguda (11 a.m. - 11 p.m.) on Tel: 55634442/3. You might just come out doing a `Quick gun Murugan' act.
