WELL, LET'S warn you right away. You'll want to buy everything in this shop. And if you take your kid along, God save you! It's a shop that can make you want to sing: "Hum bhi agar bacche hothe... ".
Party Shoppe can drive anyone crazy with a wide variety of kiddie goodies. It's a one-stop shop to grab all you need for a kid's birthday party from invitation cards to return gifts. Candles, festoons, tinsels and buntings, cake-cutting knives wrapped in ribbons, colourful paper plates and paper cups with cartoon characters, colourful party caps and masks, gift bags, wrapping paper, feathered hooters... name it, and you'll find it.
But that's not all. You have hi-fundu stuff such as colourful smoke to add that disco effect, scented snow flakes frothing out of a can, "crazy strings" (colourful confetti that stream out of a can), and Pikachu and Pokemon rubber stamps that kids can use to stamp-in their friends in welcome, club style!
At a party
The idea to start such a store struck proprietor Jawaharlal when he organised his son's birthday party 10 years ago. "I had to run from pillar to post to get all the things I needed for the party. Then I thought, why not have one shop where you'll find all you need for a child's birthday, and make it accessible and affordable to the common man," he says. It took some time for the idea to take shape and the resources to get together. Three months ago, he started the venture, which is quite a success, going by the number of people who drop in, some out of sheer curiosity. His little daughter Surabhi will show you around gleefully.
The bottomline is, of course, affordability. There is something to suit everyone's pocket. Your return gift may be a colourful pen-pencil for Rs. 3. Or it could be some fancy stuff that costs anywhere between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100. The snowflakes can or confetti can cost Rs. 60. You can also pick up a balloon pump (yes that too!), at Rs. 75.
He stocks the latest Spiderman and Harry Potter knickknacks, fancy CD cases with cartoon characters on them, key chains, glitter glue, body glitter, pencil boxes, photo-frames, mugs, pens, colour clay, crayons, pencils, scented and differently-shaped erasers, photo albums, musical skipping ropes, exotic pens that glow, pens with animal heads where the tongue pops out things that will thrill kids. Many goodies are imported from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
Of course, there are fancy things such as a snowman-shaped candle that sings "Happy Birthday to You" or a knife that sings the same song when you cut the cake (Rs. 50). Spring-loaded confetti that can just flood a room at one go comes at Rs. 100. You could also ask Jawaharlal to hire a "live cartoon character" to come along and dance in the parties. That would cost Rs. 750.
Party Shoppe also offers customised return gifts. You could probably get the birthday baby's name painted on a mug or a photo-frame. It also has an entire basic party pack for Rs. 40 with balloons, buntings, and confetti for the balloons.
A variety of balloons and inflated toys are another attraction here. An inflated standing Spiderman (as tall as a two-year-old) comes at Rs. 55. Punching balloons, metallic and helicopter balloons, and heart-shaped and star-shaped ones (imported from Spain and Greece) also find place on the shelves. The shop has thermocol cut-outs of cartoon characters which can be used in a theme-based party.
"We also organise theme parties, and decorations, magic show, tattoo-painting, game stalls, popcorn and sugar candy-stalls, and bouncing nets for parties. Very soon we will start hiring out party-stuff too,'' says Jawaharlal.
Party Shoppe is at No 3137-A, 7th Main (extension of Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Road), near Indiranagar ESI Hospital (close to Cambridge Layout), HAL II Stage. Phone: 98450-33991/ 30900507.
