The future is here
India is on course for becoming a superpower. But it may not be a smooth sailing for the BJP. Bejan Daruwalla says all this and much more in a chat with S.M. YASIR.

ENTERING A hotel room isn't always something that requires tact and careful planning. But try entering his room at The Ashoka without taking off your shoes and the hue and cry that follows makes you run for cover. Chances are you remove your shoes and proceed. You do so without washing your hands. Another invitation to trouble. Bejan Daruwalla, being a devotee of Ganesha, is particular about cleanliness.
From thereon the rendezvous is much smoother, in fact something you can look forward to.
"If equal love there cannot be, let the more loving one be me. I just want everyone to be happy. It doesn't matter if someone doubts my intelligence, I am wrong many times, but my honesty shouldn't be doubted," says the 73-year-old astrologer who had predicted that Atal Bihari Vajpayee would retain power this time.
"Astrology isn't everything. Life is. And there are other things to life. Astrology isn't a perfect science either. It is an art based upon intuition that comes from the grace of god," he explains.
Women march ahead
Never mind that his annual horoscope for the year 2005 has the reason for the wrong forecast on the first page. Daruwalla had said that BJP will lose power if it continues to make wild statements.
He, however, accepts this is no excuse since he had seen Vajpayee's hand personally. The fact that he still has faith in Vajpayee but not the BJP is another thing all together. In spite of this he points out that he is among the greatest astrologers ever. "There are better astrologers too but not many have the nerve to declare things one year in advance. Or sometimes, they simply aren't famous enough to be noticed," he adds.
He qualifies his statement by informing that he was right about women getting on top with Shirin Abadi getting a Nobel Prize. He had also predicted that Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan would have better days after 2001.
He also reiterates his claim that India will be a superpower towards the end of this decade or maybe a little later.
However, the feather in his cap according to him is his ability to predict things related to technologies such as Bluetooth and cloning.
He might be correct or he might be wrong but he says there would be peace all around somewhere in the next decade. Call it intuition or call it wishful thinking, but one sure wants this prophecy to come true.
