Chettinad cuisine: once you're hooked, you stay hooked
HERE'S A food festival to spice up the most jaded palate. The Taj West End is hosting a Chettinad food festival till July 4 at the Poolside Barbeque for both lunch and dinner.
Chettinad (the Karaikudi region of Tamil Nadu) is known for its outstanding architecture and cuisine. The women of the Chettiyar community, affectionately called aachis, possess exceptional culinary skills.
This time round, Taj has brought two specialists, Jaya Kumar and Mahesh Kumar, to cook favourites like Chettinad kadai varuval, Kallal kari chukka, Devakottai nattukozhi roast, Devakottai attukaal paya, Karaikudi pumpkin halwa, and so on. Also on the menu are kal kosas, kuzhi panniaram, appam, besides pickles and podis.
The fare is served on banana leaf for the authentic taste. Moreover, banana leaf is not only hygienic, but also has medicinal value.
