Friday's back... with classics
ROCK AND Roll Classics. Sounds like music. But No. It is the name of new theme dishes of the Thank Goodness Its Friday - TGI Friday - the American dining chain in India. . The dishes found most in demand after a survey on Fridays are added to the restaurant's regular menu after every few months and in the current month, this is the fare on offer. And, the May menu certainly invokes a nostalgic feeling for the freewheeling 60's era and all its pleasures.
"TGI Friday introduces new preparation from time to time and Rock And Roll Classics is their latest offering," says Tusshar Bajpai, Restaurant Manager, adding, the menu includes dishes from Friday's dishes on demand like lamb burger, surf and turf, country chicken fried chicken, cottage cheese cruiser, cherry coca-cola cake with unlimited coke. "Out of these, the popular ones will be later retained in the regular menu," he informs.
Taking inspiration from classic drive-ins that became popular along roadsides during the peak of Rock-n-Roll era, the dishes are not spicy and oil-free. All the dishes are non-vegetarian except cottage cheese cruiser. The char grilled lamb burger is topped with Cajun onion rings and melted Colby cheese served with a side of onion rings. While the loaded baked potato is an integral part of surf and turf and cottage cheese cruiser, the cheddar cheese mashed potato adds flavour to the country chicken fried chicken served with the signature `JD glaze' sauce.
"If dessert is your passion, the cherry coca-cola cake is a perfect finish to any meal," avers Bajpai.
TGI Friday, best known for casual dining, has a fine decorf with polished teak and brass while the walls are lined with memorabilia like bicycle, traffic light signal, a doll sitting in a chair, thus giving a vintage look . "To enhance the ambience, features like Tiffany lamps, red and white stripes, the racing skull suspended from ceiling and propeller over the bar along with the trendy and punctuated music is there in all TGI Friday outlets," adds Bajpai.
This 240-seater restaurant split over two levels, offers a meal for two at Rs. 500 approximately.
