Conti bistro

Café One is a place to sample gourmet pizzas and more from the Conti basket

WITH ITS typical café lounge chairs and cosmopolitan interiors, Café One is not the regular coffee outlet in town. Visitors at One Stores who drop by for a quick bite, would agree. Café One does brew cappuccino, hot chocolate and tea, but this is a place to sample Italian soups, Greek Salads and Spanish entrees not forgetting the very English pies.

Located in Begumpet, at One Stores (Gowra Trinity, Chiraan Fort Lane, Tel: 55490000, 10.30 a.m.-10.30 p.m.) Café One is a Conti bistro and exotic at that. Gourmet pizzas are topped with ingredients that are marinated in herbs, roasted and grilled before they are dished out on the pizza base. As for pastas, the fettuccine and penne come from Italy. Parmesan, Mozarella and other varieties of cheese, fresh basil, olives, gherkins and more go into the preparations. Sandwiches, again take an exotic tilt with black olives, coleslaw, lettuce, gherkins and lettuce. "Most of our customers who are IT professionals are familiar with the pastas," says Franklin Carvalho, Senior Manager, Café One. Franklin has worked in Australia and with cruise liners, thus brings along authentic global flavours.

The hiss of the coffee machine along with the display window sure seems appetising. Choose from a fiery Tex Mex burger or an Apple Pie. For teatime, entrees include Garlic bread, Fish fingers and the popular Beaten Good. This is a fluffy omelette filled with chicken and cheese. Team these with Italian coffee delight Alfogato or sweet yoghurt whipped with fresh and dried fruits. Café One also has a small kids menu featuring Mini hot dog, Kiddy burger and more.

For the diet conscious, Café One offers soups and salads, a Minestrone soup to go with Mornay - a cheesy bake of greens or chicken. Vegetable stack - roasted capsicum, grilled eggplant and tomato and Chicken Parmigiana - crumbled chicken breast served with French fries and salads are for filling lunches.

"Today you need to have a good restaurant at shopping malls as they are turning to be family outing destinations. The bistro in the twin cities has been the pilot café. The response has been promising. On weekends we have reservations. We plan to incorporate Café One in the One Stores that we would be shortly coming up in the country and are also looking at stand alone Café One outlets, preferably at shopping malls," says Chandrasekharan, managing director One Retail & Holdings Private Limited. International shopping concepts and now food court in these malls that sell world cuisine, both seem promising, that is when the menu reads similar to the price points on prêt labels that the mall retails, as Café One shows.
