The dosa promotion at Paradise Lounge, Taj Residency, is value for money
THE HUMBLE dosa has been transformed into a ubiquitous dish these days. It can be had for any meal from breakfast, lunch or dinner and even doubles up as a snack or tiffin. Quite a few hotels in the city have been organising dosa festivals and promotions periodically perhaps going by its popularity. The latest in the fray is Taj Residency (at Paradise Lounge) but they are doing it during tea time (3.30 - 6.30 p.m.).
"When we noticed people coming into Paradise Lounge around tea time we found them ordering dosas or idlis. So we thought of offering them assorted dosas. Also if one skips lunch one can always have dosas as they are filling too," says Food and Beverages Manager Sumeet Taneja.
"The deal is not heavy on the pocket and it is sumptuous too. It's value for money. For Rs. 65 plus 8 per cent tax one can have unlimited dosas (served with 2-3 chutneys, sambhar and gunpowder) and a cup of South Indian coffee or tea," says Executive Chef Ganesh Joshi.
A live counter is set up for the purpose where a chef prepares hot, sizzling dosas right in front of the guest. A menu card highlights the varieties being served (the menu changes everyday).
Some of the popular dosas (with fillings) says Chef Joshi are masala, paneer, mixed vegetable dosa, egg and kheema (chicken and mutton). New varieties are being churned out by Chef but they will be restricted to the savoury versions. No dessert dosa is likely to feature.
"At the end of the day we want to be as close to the original as possible," says Chef Joshi regarding this.
"We want people to come, sit in a relaxed fashion in air-conditioned surroundings and enjoy dosa which is freshly prepared in front of them," says Joshi.
Who will not, for Rs. 65 (plus 8 per cent taxes) one gets almost a meal (as dosas are unlimited) for a steal. The promotion is on for some time. So go ahead.
