Perfect dhaba look
A HANGING lantern, a canister and a deflated tyre on the rooftop and a bit of foot tapping Punjabi music... This is what makes the splendid setting of the Punjabi Food Festival that is on at Vaishali, the speciality Indian cuisine restaurant at hotel Jaypee Siddharth. The restaurant, which has a seating capacity of 120, has a perfect ambience for the food festival of its kind.
"We have tried to give the whole place a `Punjabi dhaba' look. The basic aim is to give the best of Punjabi food in a perfect Punjabi ambience," says Ravi Kapila, the general manager.
The restaurant has been done up in a way to give the people a real taste of Punjab, not only by the food offered but also by its decoration. It is very much decorated on the lines of a normal roadside `dhaba'. The small bar in the middle is named `Desi Sharab Ka Theka', which has all the `non-desi' drinks on offer. The place from where the food is served has been named Jalandhar station and the Amritsar station. Gurmukhi language has also been used in some places. Some movie posters have also been stuck around the place to give it a perfect `dhaba' look.
There is also a live band in the evening that plays the traditional `Giddha' and `Tappa' numbers.
The food here comprises the best that Punjab offers. From the hot `Tangdi Shan-e-Punjab' and `Machchi Amritsari' in the non-vegetarian section to the famous `Makki ki Roti nal Sarson ka Saag' and `Makhanwali Dal' for the veggie-lovers, the taste of Punjab is in everything.
The Al-a Carte menu has also been specially designed for the festival. The stewards also wear the ethnic Punjabi dresses in the evening to make the customers feel as if they are in Punjab only.
