YOU WOULD agree that winter is that period of the year when people prefer sitting out for a grub in the Sun rather than the confines of the interiors. Bearing this in mind, The Grand hotel in New Delhi has let its doors open for its customers at its Winter Garden restaurant this season. It acts to the advantage of customers that this restaurant is an extension of Brix, the European cuisine restaurant. This means that customers not only get delightful European cuisine but also four skewers in vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
For vegetarians and non-vegetarians there is an impressive list of skewers. At Rs. 550, vegetarians get Zucchini, Cottage Cheese, Assorted Bell Pepper and button, enoki and shiitake in mushrooms. They also get to choose from Grilled Asparagus with Hollandaise Sauce, Herb Mushrooms, Char-Grilled Vegetables, Garden Leaves or Caesar Salad.
For Rs. 650, non-vegetarians would get Garlic Jumbo Prawns, Norwegian Salmon Stake, Lamb Brochettes, Chicken Brochettes, Australian Lamb Chops and Tenderloin Medallions.
Garlic Jumbo Prawns taste delicious not only because of their freshness but also the way they are prepared. After prawns are grilled they are tossed with garlic butter and then served with lemon butter sauce.
Ritu Dhawan, Manager, Marketing Communications, The Grand, says, all the sauces - mushroom, pepper, black pepper and green pepper - are prepared in-house.
To offer a few tips, start with Garden Salad with bacon, lettuce, cherries, tomatoes, bread croutons, Boccincni cheese, vinegar and egg. It acts as an appetiser for the main course. Salmon Stake comes as a wonderful surprise.
"The salmon comes all the way from Norway. We get fresh salmons. Ducks are procured from Australia while our imported Lamp Chops are our star items. As expatriates have a fascination for cheese and German sausages, we sell them here", Ritu adds.
Those having fondness for good old wine can choose from a wide variety of wines from La Cava, the wine cellar. Though the restaurant is open for dinner with lights brightening up the outdoor sitting arrangement, the best time to visit it is for lunch when the Sun is out. That this restaurant is surrounded by beautiful seasonal flowers makes this place close to Nature.
For those usually late in catching up with things, the restaurant will remain open till March 2004.
