Gourmet's delight

A varied fare awaits connoisseurs at this coffee shop

THE TAJ Residency, the business hotel of the group in Hyderabad, has revamped the buffet at its coffee shop, the Paradise Lounge.

Paradise has introduced a live counter as part of its buffet, all through the week. "There has been a demand for a live counter for a while now. Besides, the management felt it would liven up the buffet as the same fare can get boring after a while," says Kapil Upadhyaya, Sous Chef.

With this latest addition, guests can see their meal being prepared and even suggest or choose their garnishing. "It helps relate with the customer better, as they can see us at work. We can prepare the food according to their taste and it also helps build a relationship. Otherwise the kitchen is so far removed from the dining experience," Kapil adds.So what's new on the cards? The counter is theme based and the décor and the menu match the theme for the day. There is an entire gamut of them - the Crepe Bar that will offer a variety of pancakes with varied stuffing and sauces, the Noodle Bar that will display not only a variety of noodles but also allow the guest choose exotic vegetables which the chef will add to his wok and the Dimsum Bar which will offer steamed foods mostly oriental.

While the Mongolian counter offers fare from the steppes, the Tawa counter offers a selection of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes drawn from our desi cuisine. The Mexican counter offers the spicy foods of the desert while the Pasta counter offers a variety from mamma's repertoire of cheesy, creamy Italian dishes.

Although Paradise may not display some of the colourful, crawly creatures that are found in the counters of the cities of the Far East, the gustatory experience promises to be worthwhile. The buffet is open between 7.30 and 11.30 p.m. through the week and costs Rs. 345 plus taxes per head. If variety is the spice of your life you know in which direction to head. Bon appetit.
