Mirror, mirror on the wall...
Using the process of etching on glass, Laxma Goud gives the ordinary mirror the aura of an objet d'art
THE CELEBRATED Hyderabad-based artist, printmaker, educationist and designer Laxma Goud extended his artistic creativity to designing textiles and has now broadened the ambit to include surface decoration of mirrors.
`Extension ' is an expansion of the expression of his art in that his drawings have been transferred on to a different medium. Using the process of etching on glass, the ordinary mirror takes on the aura of an object of art in the manner of donning a new mantle.
A master draughtsman, Goud uses his signature nudes to adorn the mirror, creating a work of art to mirror God's works of art. His distinctly robust linear style is immensely suited to the task of creating evocatively bold reflections of his fascination with the erotic.
The sinuous expressionist lines invest the human forms with vigour and aesthetic character, giving the mundane mirror a unique personality.
The works of Laxma Goud are on display until November 30 at the Accessory Shop, the lifestyle craft outlet of Apparao Galleries, Wallace Gardens, Third Street, Nungambakkam.
