Yellow all the way
Yellow Capsicum at Banjara Hills brings an affordable spread of Mughlai and Chinese fare
LOUD IS the first impression you getas you glance around this eatery that presents yellow tiles, table covers and salt and pepper sprinklers. "Yellow stands for energy. Yellow capsicum is rare in comparison to the commonly available red and green varieties, something we got to know during our visit to Europe and the U.S. We also run a takeaway in Chicago with the same name where we specialise in Mughlai cuisine and that will be our thrust here along with Chinese dishes since people like the multi-cuisine concept here," says Ayesha Siddiqua, partner Yellow Capsicum Restaurant at Banjara Hills.
Thus the menu holds all the 65s Aloo, gobi and the rest, corn soups, noodles and the fried ricevarieties. Chef Syed Mehboob has worked in Dubai and Jeddah dishing out the Hyderabadi cuisine to the workforce there so he presents the robust and authentic Nargisi kebab, Chuzeman pasand and Chicken dopyaza, Tatti ke kebab and Kofta masala. The biryani is a popular takeaway here and a bit hatke, when compared to that dished out by the Irani cafes in the twin cities. It takes a more spicy regional flavour served with an equalising dahi ki chutney and salan.
In the vegetarian fare Chef Mehboob recommends the Mixed vegetable curry. One also finds Capsicum masala featuring on the menu. "We would be adding more capsicum-based dishes shortly such as Stuffed capsicum a Mughlai preparation in which capsicum is filled with dum ka kheema and cooked. Also we would be working on the ambience, have more yellow around, in the cutlery and on the counter," says Ayesha.
The ice cream counter has an interesting retro look about it. A frame of the famous Brooklyn Bridge by night adorns the wall behind the desk, which holds finely crafted antique glass bowls and shortly coloured glass stemware. You could wrap up the meal with orange and fig-based ices and also the famous Taj Ice Cream. And during Ramzan, the restaurant brings the very Hyderabadi Dahi badey and haleem from 4.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Yellow Capsicum Restaurant (Pavani Indradhanush Complex, 8-2-273-276, Road No.2, Banjara Hills, Tel: 23541446) is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on regular days.
And yes, this is one easy-on-the-pocket informal place, where you can be yourself and have a bite with a jazz music playing in the background.
