Cushioned comfort

Yamini at Elahe presents a cushion cover mela with loads of wishes for a colourful Diwali

DIWALI IS the time not only for festivities, crackers and best wishes but also for mutual visits. And, when you think of seating your guests comfortably, think cushion. Try out this cosy arrangement in one corner — a sofa with cushions placed strategically. In another corner, spread a couple of mattresses that can serve as a diwan with cushions at the back. Spruce up further with two or three low stools/ chairs and place a cushion each. You could also place cushions on the floor/mat as seats. Have you noticed that the focus now is on cushions?

The modern lifestyle demands ultra-modern concepts. To replenish your stock of cushion covers, check out Yamini at Elahe for its cushion cover mela. Why cushion covers, you may ask.

"Because they are the first things to attract attention as soon as guests walk into your living room. And, they need to be changed frequently as they get untidy soon," says Smitha Shroff of Elahe. "Moreover, while our earlier exhibition of table linen was received well, bags were a sell out. So, for Diwali, we brought cushion covers for the Hyderabadis," she adds.

So, this Diwali, celebrate colour by checking out the `mela'. If silks with gilt prints, sequin work, embroidery, cords and tassles enhance the seductive look of your drawing room, zari block prints on Maheswari fabrics and crushed tissues with bead work offer a touch of opulence.

This range is priced from Rs. 185 onwards.

The funky range (priced at Rs. 200 and above) is an elegant collection of geometric and retro patterns like waves and polka dots.

The handwoven cushion covers are a cool pick in two-toned fabrics in bright colours with buttons, beaded borders, coordinated prints and embroidered motifs, priced from Rs. 135 onwards.

There is a special gift range for the festival season. Priced from Rs. 185 to Rs. 250 for a set, two cushions tied together with gold tape come in attractive designs like chintz with cowrie shell trims, floral and textured tissues in gold-tinted pastels, stripes and patches. Check out the collection till October 26 at the store (Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, Tel: 23556529) between 11 a.m. and 8.30 p.m.
