LOOKING FOR Devdas-style bangles, bindis of the kind women in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki wear, or plane old Shringar kunkum? Whatever be your taste in beauty accessories, step into Sri Bhavani Kangan Stores on D.V.G. Road, and you are sure to find exactly what you are looking for. Not that stepping in is easy. Specially now, during the festival season, the store is choking with people.
Sri Bhavani Kangan Stores was started in 1956 by K.N. Narasimha Jogi. Those were days when words like "fashion" and "style" were not much in vogue. But the shop has kept up with the changing trends and fashions and so, besides loyal customers, it attracts new customers every day. It's the sheer variety of products available, assurance of quality, and reasonable price that draws people, says K. Chandrashekar, who has been managing the shop for the last 27 years.
The showcases in the shop are full of the latest variety of bangles, bindis, imitation jewellery, and so on. But interestingly, they have not edged out saane bangles and powder kunkuma that have stood the test of time. The shop also stores a variety of temple dance sets, gold-covered bridal jewellery, and cosmetics and skin care products from all the leading brands such as Lakme, Revlon, Elle 18, Maybelline, and Biotique.
"We have been buying fancy items here for the last 30 years, though we have moved away from Basavanagudi area," says Vidya, who lives in Banashankari III Stage.
"The idea is to qualify as the complete fancy-cum-fashion store," says Mr. Chandrashekar. He has customers who come asking for "just the kind of bindi" the female lead of Kyuki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi wears the day after they watch it on television. And the store, says Mr. Chandrashekar, rarely disappoints them.
The shop can be contacted on 6509053.
