You don't have to go as far as a shop to buy a rakhi now.
WHEN PEOPLE are on the move all the time, even relationships go online. Considering that most middle-class families in India have siblings scattered across continents — one in Bangalore, another in Madrid, and yet another in New York — it's no surprise that a well-meaning company has come up with the offer of celebrating Raksha Bandhan (which is being celebrated tomorrow) online.
The XPS door-to-door express service, a division of Transport Corporation of India, has launched what it calls Anmol Rakhi Service especially for the festival that celebrates the relationship between a brother and a sister.
The package is a hand-crafted box which will contain a silver rakhi, dori, sachets of roli, and chawl, and a best wishes card. The idea is to make the festival a "memorable occasion, and something to be cherished by brothers who far away from their sisters".
The XPS Anmol Rakhi is accessible to sisters across the country and abroad. XPS will hand-deliver the rakhi box at the brother's doorstep.
The service within India will cost Rs. 99 and service from India to a place abroad will cost Rs. 999. Sisters living abroad can get a rakhi pack door-delivered to their brothers in India for $10. Deliveries from a place abroad to another place abroad will cost $20.
