Hot dogs and frankies
How does one make hot dogs and frankies?
HOT DOGS were originally made with pork sausages in a dog roll bun. Today, since people avoid red meats, chicken sausages are used to make hot dogs. All one needs is a hot dog roll which is about 6" long and 2" wide. The sausages should be boiled in water. Then one can use either boiled sausages or can fry the sausages in a little oil before placing them in the roll. Cut the roll horizontally and toast it. Apply butter and a place lettuce leaf on the roll. Put sliced tomatoes and onions on the lettuce. Place the boiled or fried sausages on it. You might need two to three sausages for the roll. Sprinkle the sausages with mustard paste or/and tomato ketchup. Serve with French fries or a leafy salad.
Frankies are normally more like a Kathi kebab. One needs to make a thin roti like a roomali and fill it with the filling of one's choice. Normally the word frankie is associated with more of a continental filling rather than an Indian filling. A chicken cutlet like mixture can be used to make a filling for a frankie. Most frankies are diced chicken with a white sauce which is flavoured with celery, nutmeg and chopped carrots along with onions and garlic which is then filled in a thin sheet of bread.
