An affordable P4

THIS IS probably the best time to buy personal computers. The computers come in fantastic speeds and high storage capacities at very affordable rates. The downward movement in market prices can be attributed to the competition between different firms, both Indian and foreign, to capture the vast Indian market and the growing need for information technology.

In keeping with changing market conditions, Acer has launched the AcerPower Sle, a commercial desktop.

The Acer Power Sle, commercial PC was launched in January 2003. The desktops, Acer says, are "designed for large enterprises, small and medium sized businesses, SoHo, education, and government customers".

The model, an Intel P4, comes with a 1.8 ghz desktop with Linux programming at only Rs. 28,000. Most computers are priced in the range of Rs 30-40,000 in the market. Harish Kohli, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Enterprise Prodcuts Group, Acer India, said: "The strategy of focusing on niche areas such as banking, finance, insurance, government and oil companies has helped Acer to register above average growth. The AcerPower Sle specifically is designed to cater to a very different requirement of the PSUs and also to survive the rough work conditions."

AcerPower Sle has been deployed in school computersation at the village level by the Madhya Pradesh government, VHSE (Vocational Higher Secondary Education) project aided by the Government of Kerala, Haryana Education Project, Maharashtra Education Project, Indian Railways, Indian Army, Indian Navy, and the Uttar Pradesh trade tax.

A release from Acer says that it has so far sold over 10,000 units of the AcerPower Sle model.
