Giving wing to talent

Wannabe models and actors have a chance to make it big during Alchemy's talent hunt in the city.

ARE YOU dreaming of making it big in modelling or acting? Then, get ready to be evaluated by professionals. The Chennai-based Alchemy 100% Transformation will be in the city during the second week of July to rope in the best of talent.
"The modelling industry is facing cut-throat competition. People have started appreciating good expressions and the whole look of an advertisement, be it clothing or anything else. We are finding it hard to meet this demand. We have already screened Chennai. We are looking at an expansion this year and so, decided to venture into Coimbatore, Madurai and Salem to add variety," says the company's Fashion Designer and Image Consultant, Vijay Viswanathan.
Vijay, who has designed the costumes for celebrities like Mammooty, Prashanth, Nasser, Sneha and Dilip and ad films for brands like Nescafe, Sprite and Reynolds, opines the Cotton City will be a good bet for the industry as its people are more into textiles.
"There are a lot of talented youngsters here, but many are scared to come out because the media has projected modelling as a risky business. Not really. There is no underhand dealing. We run a transparent business. We have always believed in a `If you win, I win' policy. Parents can come with their children and talk to us, attend our programmes and even see our portfolios."
Alchemy refers to a change from one stage to another. "That's what we are aiming at. Trying to transform a normal person into a celebrity. As part of that transition, we introduce meditation, dance skills and diet to wannabe celebrities."
The dancer-turned-designer, who has trained over 45 models, claims the firm has the necessary wherewithal and well-trained faculty to help talent shine in the fields of modelling, acting, static and fashion photography, disc jockeying and compereing live shows.
After making its mark in Chennai, the company has plans to penetrate into Kerala and Bangalore. "It all depends on the response for the workshop to be held in Coimbatore," concludes Vijay.
