Gliding on rugged roads

RIDING TWO-wheelers can be rather tiresome. The poor condition of roads makes it an even more unpleasant experience. Potholed roads and bumpy rides — two-wheeler riders have to be prepared for all this. What people want is a vehicle that can make their ride a little more comfortable.

The Indian two-wheeler rider is also a cost-conscious individual and the first question that often crops up before a purchase is the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Can one have a fuel-efficient vehicle that can endure the rough roads as well?

Over the years, manufacturers of two-wheelers have been trying to design vehicles that are both fuel-efficient and capable of weathering bad roads. Four-stroke technology helped improve fuel efficiency, and it was promptly incorporated it in bikes. The bikes were also designed to suit Indian road conditions. Now, scooters, which used to chug alongside the faster bikes, are fast going their way. `Eterno', the latest 150cc four-stroke scooter from the Honda stable, which was launched in Coimbatore recently, is designed to suit Indian road conditions. The scooter boasts of a side-mounted engine, an easy-to-operate one-direction gear system, neutral lock and a Convenient Lift-up and Independent Cover (CLIC). The scooters are available at Chandra Honda, the authorised dealers in the city.
