The sob stories on TV have managed to entice women, but they have taken a toll on quality family time. It's time for a change, our readers say.

EVERY creation is intended to attract the observer. TV serials are not an exception.
It is a known fact that our people are highly sensitive and easily yield to emotions and sentiments. Serial makers have only taken advantage of this.

PEOPLE are sensitive to sentiments and TV serials exploit this weakness. Though it was initially welcomed, too much of sentiment has made us look out for other means of entertainment.

YOUNGSTERS are more affected by weepy serials as they are not attuned to such overdoses of sentiment.
Elders don't have any problem as they have been through similar situations.

TV serials have become a part of the daily life of women. So much so that most of them imagine themselves as one of the characters. This affects them mentally.

SERIALS with sob stories used to command good viewership as they were relatively new to the small screen.
But, due to the repetition of the same storyline in different serials, channel surfing has become the norm.
Directors and producers should ensure that the story base does not become too sentimental as people are fed up of watching them.

SENTIMENT has become an inseparable part of our lives and, somehow, we wish to be associated with that. TV has caught up with this trend.
Nowadays, serials having sentimental storylines get the maximum TRP ratings.
Those involved in producing serials should be careful, as some may try to imitate `small screen' characters in real life.

PEOPLE watch TV only for entertainment. Programmes should be presented in a lively manner, reflect reality and provide constructive information. Overdose of sentiment does not serve any purpose.

OVERDOSE of sentiment has crossed all limits. Women are the target audience for such serials. The addiction disrupts their day-to-day work.
Due to this, even dinner gets delayed in many homes as food is served only after the serial gets over.

PRODUCERS of TV serials select family-oriented themes because housewives and the elderly constitute a large chunk of their viewership.
They have also succeeded in making them appealing. As a result, viewers remain glued to the T.V. sets from dawn to dusk.

THIS phenomenon is nothing new. Sentiment was part of TV serials even in the late 80s when there were no satellite channels. The only difference now is that the number of channels has increased.

TV is meant to provide mental relief to those who come home exhausted after a hard day's work.
But, the serials currently aired on various channels only cause mental tension.
Shedding tears for unwanted fiction is neither educative nor entertaining. People should learn to spend their time in a more useful manner.

AFTER a certain point, viewers will give such serials the go-by. A bit of moderation will help in sustaining viewers' interest.

TODAY, we hardly get to see any family sitting together and watching a humour show.
Laughter is the best medicine. But, how many serials make us laugh? Directors must realise that serials, besides fetching them good profit, should also create awareness among the public about the positive aspects of life.
Sentiments are necessary, but they should help in building healthy relationships.

MEGA serials greatly appeal to women and are supposed to entertain housewives. But, they are packed with sorrow and leave women in a depressed state the entire day.

IT is but natural to be sentimental at times. But the extreme sentiments portrayed in TV serials can generate negative thoughts.
The more positive we are in life, the more successful will we be.

OVERDOSE of sentiment affects the relationship between members of a joint family. In a nuclear family, it upsets the minds of children who watch them with their parents.
Healthy relationships have started disappearing as a result of this trend.

THE producers of TV serials are to be blamed for this unhealthy phenomenon.
Frequent emotional outbursts and other such portrayals in serials will have an impact on real life as well.

THE protagonists in these serials, in most cases women, are always in tears. Serials have shown them in poor light and degraded the values of family life. Scriptwriters should avoid such unpleasant portrayals.
This trend may create a fear in the minds of bachelors entering wedlock.

TODAY, TV serials are all about rich and big families. The characters shown in these soaps are also very unreal.
Producers are making money by fooling people. Serials must be made more entertaining.

KEEPING in mind most women's aversion to violence and thrillers, TV serial directors dish out fare filled with sentiment.
Over-sentimental serials will continue to rule the TV screens unless women boycott them.

BE it Tamil or Hindi, serials are full of emotions, which are bearable till a certain stage.
We need laughter in our lives, but the sentiments portrayed in serials remind us of our own problems.

SENTIMENTS shape attitudes and influence the behaviour of people. An overdose corrupts those who produce it and see it.
It is also an insult to men and women, a danger to children and a practice that should be rejected.

TO bring an end to this unhealthy trend, people should realise the time and mental peace lost because of this stereotyped sobbing and boycott serials.

NOWADAYS, films as well as TV serials are full of unwanted, useless and wasteful sentiments.
Flimsy plots; rubbery dialogues and inconsistent characteri- sation are the order of the day.
It is high time producers stop serialising trivial stories which only rely on sentiment.
