Beauty and brains

BEAUTY CONCERNS have made steady progress from the days when they were only found in women's magazines to a full-fledged industry that today confidently rubs shoulders with health care. So serious has the business become that a seminar on beauty no longer raises eyebrows.

Recently National Hairdressers and Beauticians Association (India) along with Pivot Point India and Dr. Blossom Kochhar's Aroma Magic organised a seminar on hair and beauty.

The aim of the seminar was promoting aroma therapy. Later, there was a hair and make-up show with a well-known name in the ramp circuit, Aparna Chandra, in a bridal outfit. Other models - Ritu Singh, Sunaina, Setu Kumar and Ramneck displayed beauty care products like Aroma Magic, aroma therapy oils and cosmetics.

There was a presentation on use of natural oils for beauty treatment. Aparna Chandra provided the lovely canvas for a demonstration of natural oil, which was applied on face, hair and body. The products - Omph, Body Tone, Razor's Edge, Satin Smooth, Baby Bath Oil and Flawless - were exclusively of Aroma Magic. They were dubbed by Blossom as "holistic". She said: "This kind of educational seminar can bring the hair dressers and beauticians together. This will eventually promote the industry. Their aim of representing India at the international levels, specifically for a successful bid at the Beauty and Hair Olympics, could be realised. In India we have a lot of talent. All we need is a little bit of exposure."

A major attraction was the Bride of the Season show by eminent beauticians, Samantha Kochhar and Deepa Verma. The two demonstrated their know-how about the steps involved in decorating a bride.

A veteran in the hair care and beauty world, Blossom, Vice President of Mondial Coiffure, Paris - has been practicing aromatherapy for the past 25 years. She has also authored several books - "All You Need To Know About Hair", "Skin And Beauty Care", "Health And Beauty Through Aromatherapy" and "How To Manage Your Salon".
