Rendezvous with Saddam!

SADDAM IN Intercontinental The Grand? Yes, The Rendezvous - the round-the-clock, multi cuisine restaurant at this New Delhi hotel - is offering pulliodarai saddam, only it's pronounced saadam. This innocuous saddam or tamarind rice is part of the fortnight long festival based on the concept of a culinary journey across the Vindhyas, offering connoisseurs of South Indian food the option to land at vegetarian or non-vegetarian stations.

Amidst an ambience of staff dressed in traditional veshti and angavastram with banana leaf mats and filter coffee brewing the feel of the region, one can leisurely explore the delectable delicacies, which may be hard to remember by name but easily imprint their identity on the taste buds. So there are dosais with fillings ranging from cheese to chicken, a variety of rasams - lemon to pulse, uttapams and appams. Dakshin aloo curry and vendakai masala (okra) are also worth a taste if you are not calorie conscious.

For non-vegetarians there is Railu Biryani if prawn puts you on, Kori Hyderabadi for those in love with chicken, and - if pisces attracts your palate, then Nellore fish curry is an option you are not likely to regret. With an array of salads as appetisers and payasam as dessert, try a tryst with this stimulating cuisine experience down under.

However, if you miss the train down South - the festival culminates this Monday - there still need be no regrets, as The Rendezvous show goes on in multi cuisine style.
